Copiers & Printing
Self-service copy machines are located on the first, second, and third floor lobby areas of the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library. A copier is available outside the Latin American Library on the 4th floor as well.
Copy cards are available for purchase from a vending machine in the lobby or from the Circulation Desk.
Printing
A new networked printing system at the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is designed to print high-quality laser prints from work stations throughout the library building and in the Architecture Library in Richardson Memorial Hall as well.
Print Instructions
- Follow the directions in the print window at each workstation to give the items you wish to print a unique name for each print job. If you are sending multiple jobs, consider attaching a number to a single name.
- When you are ready to print, proceed to the Print Station identified in the print window on your work station.
- At the Print Station, run your card through the card reader. Use the mouse to retrieve your print job (s) and select "Print" to print. That's it. Note that the system tells you how much each print job will cost as well as how much value is available on your card.
Cost of Printing
To reduce wasted paper and toner chemicals as well as printing expenses, the system is a cost-recovery one that uses the debit function of the Tulane One card (the student and faculty ID). At the library, high-quality printing is needed to allow users to make hard copies of growing numbers of online resources such as online journals, just as users have traditionally been able to do with paper journals and books with cost-recovery photocopiers. Print costs are kept to a minimum at 10 cents per page, below prices charged by commercial copy services.
Who Can Print
Tulane Students, Faculty, and Staff can use the printing system with their ID cards, adding cash value to their cards at vend stations in the library (in the 1st Floor lobby near the elevators), at the University Center, or at Richardson Hall. Visitors to the library are also encouraged to use the system, purchasing a card at vend stations in the library (in the 1st Floor lobby near the the elevators) or at the University Center.
Alternatives to Printing
- Save documents to a disc and take them with you in a non-print format.
- E-mail documents to yourself, where this option is available such as in TULANet Voyager and many library databases.
- Citations and call numbers can still be easily written with free pencils and scrap paper provided at the libraries.
Adding Value to your Card
The card dispenser that sell cards at the Howard-Tilton library (in the 1st Floor lobby near the elevators), at the University Center, or at Richardson Hall also allows card holders to add cash value to their purchased cards or to their Tulane ID cards. Just follow the directions at the machine.
