Parking and Directions

The Howard-Tilton Memorial Library is located at 7001 Freret Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. The library is near the intersection of Broadway and Freret streets, and a short distance from historic St. Charles Avenue and Audubon Park.

Please note that parking spaces are at a premium on the Tulane campus. Parking permits are required on campus 8:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Guest parking passes are available for purchase at the Public Safety/Traffic Office located in the Diboll Center. The passes cost $4.00 a day and are required Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Permits are not required on weekends. There are a few metered spaces located in front of the library. Exact change is required for the meters. There are a few handicapped spaces located near the library and permits are required to park in them.

The Tulane Campus is in a residential setting, and unmetered parking may be found along these nearby residential streets:

Broadway
Zimple
Newcomb Blvd
Burthe
Maple

Be sure to note any zoned areas; many of these residential streets have zoned parking areas.

Directions to the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library

From the West on I-10:

Take I-10 East towards New Orleans.
Take the Carrollton Avenue exit (exit 232). This exit turns into South Carrollton Ave.
Continue on South Carrollton Ave. through 5 stoplights (where South Carrollton Ave. meets South Claiborne Ave).
After passing South Claiborne, make a U-turn, and come back up South Carrollton.
Take a right on South Claiborne Ave. and go to the first stoplight (Broadway Street) and turn right.
Continue on Broadway, to Willow Street. There will be a stoplight here. Take a left at Willow Street.
Continue on Willow for approximately two blocks. Turn right on Newcomb Drive.
Take Newcomb Drive for approximately 3 blocks. There is diagonal parking on Newcomb Drive. Continue past the two stop signs. The library is at the end of Newcomb Drive on the right hand side.

From the East on I-10:

Take I-10 West towards the New Orleans Central Business District.
Take South Claiborne exit (exit 234A). This exit will turn into South Claiborne Avenue.
Continue on South Claiborne. Go 10 stoplights and turn left onto Broadway Street.
Continue on Broadway, take a left on Willow Street. There is a stoplight at this intersection.
Continue on Willow for approximately two blocks. Turn right on Newcomb Drive.
Take Newcomb Drive for approximately 3 blocks. There is diagonal parking on Newcomb Drive. Continue past the two stop signs. The library is at the end of Newcomb Drive on the right hand side.

From Downtown (by Car):

Come down Saint Charles Avenue until you reach the Loyola/Tulane Campus area.
Audubon Park will be on your left and the two campuses will be on your right.
Continue past the campuses until you come to Broadway (there will be a stoplight at the corner
Take a right on Broadway and continue to Willow Street. (this is the second stop light) on Broadway
Turn right on Willow Street
Continue on Willow for approximately two blocks. Turn right on Newcomb Drive.
Take Newcomb Drive for approximately 3 blocks. There is diagonal parking on Newcomb Drive. Continue past the two stop signs. The library is at the end of Newcomb Drive on the right hand side.

From Downtown (by bus):

Catch the Saint Charles Avenue bus from the downtown area (corner of Carondelet and Canal Street).
Stay on the bus until you reach the Loyola/Tulane Campus area.
Audubon Park will be on your left and the two campuses will be on your right.
Get off at the last Tulane University Stop.
Tilton Hall, Gibson Hall and Dinwiddie Hall are on Saint Charles Avenue.
Follow the driveway behind Tilton Hall (this in on the backside of Tilton Hall)
Follow the driveway until you reach Freret Street
Cross Freret Street and turn left on the sidewalk
Continue on the sidewalk past Jones Hall (Special Collections are located here)
Continue past the iron gate until you see the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library on the right hand side. There is a plaque on the building with the address 7001 Freret Street
Turn right on the sidewalk that runs in front of the building until you reach the entrance to the library
